October 9, 2009, Newsletter Issue #297: Whatīs the Me Syndrome?

Tip of the Week

The biggest bad habit is getting out of the Me Syndrome and focusing on the US instead. It is difficult at first to think as "we", but small steps in the beginning make for great changes in the long run.

Here are some suggests of how to get out of the Me Syndrome. 1) Think before you speak, often we donīt realize how selfish we are. 2) Ask what your partner would like to do, then do it. 3) Listen and really hear your partners opinions or requests. 4) Even if you have to shoot down an idea, be tactful-use I statements vs. you statements which always put someone on the defensive. 5) Marriage is not always 50/50; sometimes it is 20/80 or 75/25, be willing to pitch in and help out (ex. youīve worked all day and are tired; so has your spouse; consider doing one of their stereotyped "chores" at home. 6) Remember to say I love you and thank you.
